An honest comparison

A Google Maps embed shows where you are.
Pathway shows why it matters.

The free Google Maps embed is great at one thing: confirming an address. If that's all your page needs, use it. But if the neighborhood is part of what you're selling — a home, a stay, an event weekend — you need a map that tells your story, not everyone's.

The difference

Curation is the feature.

Drop a standard maps embed on your page and your visitors see what the map provider decides to show at that zoom level: every gas station, a competitor's sponsored pin, a one-star review floating next to your front door. You control exactly one thing — the centered address.

Pathway inverts that. You choose every pin. Your five favorite places appear in your colors with your notes; nothing else makes the map. Routes trace from your front door with real walking times, every place opens a card with a Street View photo, and the whole widget carries your brand instead of a map provider's.

When the free embed is the right call.

Use a Google Maps embed when…

You run a single location and just need "here's our address" on a contact page. A dentist's office, a law firm, a warehouse. The address is the whole story — and free is the right price for it.

Use Pathway when…

The surroundings are part of the pitch. A listing that's "steps from the park," a rental whose host knows the good taqueria, an event weekend with five stops. When you'd otherwise write "great location!" — show it instead.

Questions

Before you switch.

Is the embed just as easy to install?
Same effort: one snippet pasted into your page. If you've added a Google Maps iframe before, a Pathway embed is the identical motion — works on WordPress, Squarespace, Wix, and custom sites.
Does Pathway still use real map data?
Yes — real street maps, real routes, real travel times, and Street View photos with live ratings on every place card. The difference is the editorial layer: only the places you chose appear on top.
Can visitors still get directions?
Yes. Every place card includes one-tap directions that open in the visitor's own maps app, with the travel mode you set for that group.
What does it cost?
Base is $15/month for 5 maps; Premium is $30/month for 12 plus password protection, custom URLs, and per-place analytics. Every account starts with 30 days of Premium free — no credit card required.
